Sustainable MCE

Decarbonising the events industry, together. At RX, we’re serious about sustainability. We are founding members of the Net Zero Carbon Events pledge to make our company, our events and the wider events industry net zero. We commit to being net zero by 2040 and to make a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. In 2023 we will publish our pathway to net zero, setting out our reduction strategy with key milestones for all our events. Given the complex nature of our supply chain and the emissions associated with a show, it is only by working together as an industry that we will be able to reduce our impact. We are building a company of net zero heroes to take action and ensure a sustainable future.

It’s only by working together as a industry that we will achieve our goals.

Rx Italy and MCE are committed to promoting technologies, applications, products, solutions and communication models that combine production ethics, respect for the environment, diversity and quality of life for everyone. The goal is to showcase the excellences of the sector, to build a better future and enhance "ethically-minded" models, with the 17 goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda (Goals for Sustainable Development) as the guiding reference point.

RX Italy obtained the ISO 20121:2024 certification – Management System applied to the conception, planning, implementation, review and post event activities phases for Viscom Italia and MCE – Mostra Convegno Expocomfort events with the certifying body ICIM Spa and accreditation by Accredia. Getting certified not only represents RX Iyaly's commitment to sustainability; but also the desire to become a ‘sustainable’ driving force for the entire supply chain, from exhibitors to visitors and partners.

MCE: designed and provided according to ISO 20121:2024

For MCE sustainability always come first. To protect this important objective, the event is designed and provided according to ISO 20121:2024 – Management System applied to the conception, planning, implementation, review and post event activities phases for Viscom Italia and MCE – Mostra Convegno Expocomfort events.

Our Sustainable Development Goals

Several initiatives at MCE underline the importance of sustainability, which goes through the transformation of the event according to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), defined by the United Nations Organisation as the winning strategy "to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all", signed in September 2015 by the 193 UN member countries' governments.

SDG2 – Zero hunger

The “Together Against Hunger” donation in support of Banco Alimentare enables the Association to distribute meals to families in need. At the end of the event, thanks to the volunteers of Banco Alimentare's Siticibo program, surplus food is collected from the various refreshment and catering areas at the fair and redistributed to people in need.

SDG4 – Quality education

It is in the DNA of MCE Mostra Convegno Expocomfort to offer exhibitors and visitors training on the most advanced technologies and solutions at the show.  Continuous training is becoming one of the main drivers of competition in the energy efficiency market. The rich programme of educational, training and updating events on the future of plant design realised thanks to the activities of the Associations and Partners will cover air quality, incentive mechanisms for energy efficiency, BIM, circular economy, energy transition and decarbonisation.

SDG6 – Clean water and sanitation

Since 2019, MCE has supported the Just a Drop association through a donation that allows the organization to provide access to fresh water and hygienic-sanitary assistance in countries where these services are lacking. In 2026, Just a Drop is present at the fair with a dedicated area in Hall 2

Additionally, MCE provides free drinkable water dispensers for exhibitors and visitors to refill their bottles, with an aim to eliminate the use of plastic bottles and thereby contribute to a reduction in the waste produced at the show.

SDG8 – Decent work and economic growth

MCE promotes entrepreneurship, creativity, and innovation. In line with the very essence of the fair, we strive to ensure that the event serves as a platform for business development and innovation. With this view, we organize the MCE Excellence Awards, an area designed to showcase technologies, products, and solutions that combine ethical production, environmental respect, and quality of life, as well as the Intelligent Use of Water project, which highlights the mindful use of water and technologies dedicated to water efficiency.

SDG12 – Responsible consumption and production

All packaging and tableware that cannot be reused are made from compostable or biodegradable materials, with the exception of plastic bottles which are recycled by the Coripet consortium. We also focus on using reused and reusable exhibition structures and furnishings, recyclable carpeting, and energy-saving LED lights. Where available, physical signage has been replaced with digital signage, while aisle carpeting has been reduced by 75,000 m² compared to the past.

SDG13 – Climate action

A special promotion has been launched with Trenitalia, allowing all visitors and exhibitors to reach Milan’s stations using Le Frecce trains at discounts of up to 75% off the Base ticket price. During the event, we provide collective taxi services and free shuttle buses to the city centre. Additionally, Fiera Milano offers electric charging stations and an electric car-sharing service (Drivalia).

SGD17 – Partnerships for sustainable development goals

The head office, RX, carefully monitored the development of partnerships with all stakeholders, committees, and publishers to outline the best solutions, defining the guidelines to be followed for the maximum dissemination of knowledge of the SDGs to every MCE stakeholder.

The good habits

Achieving concrete and lasting results in terms of sustainability is only possible thanks to everyone's contribution. This is why we invite visitors and exhibitors who participate in our events to join our effort to protect the environment, making responsible choices and adopting ethical habits.
